Anenberg-W’s work reflects the artist’s combined fascination with color relationships and simple forms from nature. ‘Field Paintings’, 1979 - 1986, are bold medium and large format oil paintings on canvas. Anenberg-W’s more recent paintings, titled ‘Landscapes’ are just as rich in color, but are more intimate in scale. These smaller works are made mostly on canvas, and some are made on wood. The vibrant colors fields and forms are drawn from the artist’s interpretation of the land, sea and sky. New York (Hunter Mountain 1940’s), New Hampshire, and Vermont landscapes are locations that have guided and informed her work. She has also drawn inspriration from two iconic 20th-century artists Mark Rothko and Milton Avery.
Anenberg-W uses explosive color fields that suggest landscapes and more abstract forms. As a counterpoint, the color fields merge with soft edges, or are framed by more intense hues, suggesting an impending transition, or an undercurrent of mood. Her expressionistic explorations of nature have created a rich, multi-layered body of work.
